The HAPUA Council Members Joint Statement 2017

Emphasizing our commitment towards ASEAN energy security and economic community, the HAPUA Council is committed towards:

  1. Implementing the first phase of “Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore (LTMS) Power Integration Project (PIP)” by January 2018, which will optimize the use of resources and promote economic cooperation on multilateral power interconnections and trading in the region;
  2. Pursuing the three (3) ASEAN Power Grid (APG) identified as priority projects under the APAEC 2016-2025 Phase I, in addition to the eight (8) projects already implemented, which will more than double the power exchange and purchase in the region from the current 5,200 MW to 10,800 MW by 2020, and further increase to over 16,000 MW post – 2020;
  3. Pursuing the development of a high level plan for the realization of multilateral power trading in the APG that covers three phases, including a comprehensive feasibility study, design and implementation, to deliver a fully operable multilateral power trading in ASEAN;
  4. Contributing to the reduction of carbon emission from primary energy by supporting the ASEAN target of achieving 23% of renewable energy mix by 2025 from the current level at about 11% (Total Primary Energy Supply, TPES), while maintaining system reliability and power quality;
  5. Enhancing power reliability and quality by modernizing the Grid system in ASEAN Member States, including utilizing Smart Grid technologies and providing technical and non-technical expertise, cooperation and human capital development.

The Smart Grid Foundation Course by India Smart Grid Forum

ISGF will organise a Smart Grid Foundation Course with an aim to empower the Senior Officials of the electric utilities and Government officials working in the Power Sector in ASEAN Countries.

The course will provide (1) understanding of the relevance of smart grids and its potential and challenges, and (2) skills and capabilities needed to contribute to the development of smart grid in their respective organisations. The Course will also provide a platform for peer-to-peer technology discussions with utility and industry experts. Also, Technical Tours/Industry visits as part of this course will provide the participants hands on experience on the various domains of Smart Grids.

The 1st Workshop of The ASEAN AGTP & ATSO

Mr. Ignatius Rendroyoko as the Alternate HAPUA Secretary In Charge delivered his welcoming address in the opening of the 1st Workshop of The ASEAN Generation and Transmission System Planning Institution (AGTP) and ASEAN Transmission System Operators Institution (ATSO) Study that held from 7 – 8 February 2018 at The Century Park Hotel Jakarta, Indonesia.

Mr. Rendroyoko stressed in his speech the importance of the study to help ASEAN Member States to pursue the objective of APAEC phase 1 (2016 – 2020) in accelerating the realization of the ASEAN Power Grid. At the end of his speech, Mr. Rendroyoko thanked Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and HAPUA Working group 2 for their contribution for making this workshop possible.

The workshop is attended by the total of 50 participants consists of the National experts from eight ASEAN Member States, JAPAN – ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF), Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Nord Pool, and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).
